MOET Australia Testimonials

The following are comments from those who participated in the preliminary courses held in Sydney in November 2009:

MOET Course: Sydney November 2009

As clinical midwives my colleague and I welcomed the opportunity to observe the first MOET course held in Sydney late last year. The intensive three day program involved a variety of maternal and neonatal work stations together with a multiple choice exam and structured individual practical scenario assessment.

While the majority of workstation content was based on probable maternity emergencies they also provided an excellent opportunity to practise some important skills and techniques used infrequently, such as venous cut down and familiarity with difficult intubation equipment.

Group facilitators demonstrated a high level of expertise and support across the program and the content of the course aligned with a comprehensive easy to use MOET manual. Participants at this course included senior obstetric clinicians and intensivists that were able to draw upon their extensive clinical experience during group discussion, which enhanced group learning overall.

My colleague & I were encouraged to participate in the simulated scenarios, adding a midwifery context where appropriate to the clinical discussion. The ability to reflect the clinical team across the continuum is an important factor, given that in reality no one clinician group operates in isolation especially during a maternity emergency. Observing the entire MOET program represented an excellent opportunity for professional and personal development as well as interdisciplinary collaboration.
